product description
Overview
- Title: Penguin Party (new edition of the 2008 classic by Reiner Knizia)
- Players: 2–6
- Age: 8+
- Playtime: ~30 minutes
- Type: Family card game, pattern-building, light strategy
Short description
- Players collectively build a pyramid of penguins while trying to empty their hands. Place cards into the base or on higher levels supported by two penguins (one matching color required). Avoid taking penalty markers by playing efficiently; fewest penalties wins after multiple rounds.
Setup
- Deck: 36 penguin cards — 8 green, 7 each of red, blue, yellow, purple.
- Deal the deck as evenly as possible to all players. In a five-player game the extra card starts in the base; with two players each gets 14 and the base is seven wide (remaining cards removed unseen).
Gameplay (brief)
- On your turn you play one card:
- Place to the left or right of the base (base max width 8).
- Or place on a higher level if the card is supported by two penguins, at least one matching the card’s color.
- If you cannot play, discard your hand face down and take penalty markers equal to the number of cards you failed to play.
- If you empty your hand, return up to two previously collected penalty markers to the supply.
Rounds & Endgame
- Play a number of rounds equal to the number of players; each player starts one round.
- The player with the fewest penalty markers at the end wins.
Highlights
- Simple rules with tactical placement decisions
- Social, low-conflict gameplay suitable for families and kids
- Fast rounds and high replayability through changing starting players and hand distributions
Notes
- Player count adjustments: special rules for 2-player and 5-player setups as above.
